Smart Food Planning -Avoiding the Holiday Double Whammy
With the travel season in full swing, let's explore the art of strategic food planning to dodge a true double whammy and save some money to boot!
By taking charge of your meals, you not only have complete control over what you eat while travelling; You also avoid the disappointment of overpriced, blood sugar-spiking meals that can leave you feeling tired while negatively impacting your mood, emotions, and weight.
Here's some practical tips and my favourite travel food ideas.
When it comes to preparing nourishing and affordable travel food, having the right tools and ingredients can make all the difference. Here are some essentials:
1.
Insulated Flasks: Perfect for keeping your meals warm, whether it's a soup, stew, curry, dhal, or stir-fry. Remember: Warm, cooked meals are easier to digest, especially during the summer heat when our digestion is less robust.
2.
Slow Cooker: If you're traveling by car or staying in accommodation with kitchen facilities, a slow cooker can be a game-changer. Take the stress out of meal prepping and return to a delicious and ready-to-eat dish.
3.
Portable Containers: Safely store salads or wraps in glass containers to avoid plastic leakage from oil-based dishes.
4.
Cooler Bag: Handy for keeping perishable items, such as fruits, vegetables, coconut water, or substitute dairy products, fresh and cool during your travels.
5.
Dry Ingredients and Spices: Pack a selection of nuts, seeds, lentils, quinoa, white basmati or risotto rice as well as your favourite spices.
Use them to create quick and nutritious meals or to enhance the avour of your dishes.
6.
Tinned beans: Never travel without several tins of various beans to add to a stir-fry, stew, chili or salad.
7.
Recipe Ideas: Consider dishes that are easy to prepare, transport, and enjoy on the go. You can nd my favourites below.
8.
Utensils and Cutlery: Don't forget to pack reusable utensils, cutlery, and a kitchen roll.
9.
Tea ask and herbal tea bags: Carry a re llable ask for hot water or herbal tea to stay hydrated on your journey. Avoid plastic water bottles to prevent hormone disruption caused by plastic leaching into your hot water.
10. Hand blender: Conveniently whip up delicious smoothies anywhere, even in hotels! (see image proof)
Remember, planning your meals in advance and using these tools will not only save you money but also allow you to enjoy nourishing and satisfying meals while on the go. Bon appétit!
