July, Issue 2

‍Dear Visitor, ‍

Summer's here, and for those navigating grief, the rising temperatures can bring unexpected challenges. Did you know that heat can intensify grief-related emotions, especially anger?

In my recent article for BrainZ Magazine, "Beyond Emotions: How Anger Can Be Fuelled By Our Food & Lifestyle Choices", I dive deep into the mind-body connection and how our daily habits can impact our emotional responses during grief.

But that's not all - I've also shared personal insights and practical tips in my latest blog for AtaLoss, "Summer Heat and Grief". From my own experience of an anger outburst in Italy to strategies for staying cool (both physically and emotionally), this blog offers a candid look at managing grief in the summer months.

Cool Down with a Grief-Friendly Summer Treat

After exploring the heavier topics of grief and anger, why not refresh yourself with a cooling, nourishing drink? I'm excited to share my special Peach Rosewater Lassi recipe with you.

Peach Rosewater Lassi

This delicious and soothing drink is not just refreshing – it's designed to support your body and mind during the grieving process. Here's why it's perfect for summer grief care:

  • Peaches: Their sweetness and juiciness rehydrates and energises when summer heat makes your body dry. Peaches improve digestion and gently cleanse the liver which needs extra TLC in summer to reduce flare-ups of anger, frustration, or irritability.
  • Yogurt (full-fat!) provides probiotics for gut health, which is linked to emotional well-being. When blended into lassi, it becomes easier to digest than plain yogurt. The dilution helps beneficial bacteria survive better in your stomach and reduces mucus formation, making it an ideal choice for summer.
  • Rosewater has a cooling and soothing effect, calming both your liver and nervous system.
  • Freshly ground cardamom is highly aromatic and improves the digestion of this sweet treat. It’s also nature’s most powerful mucus destroyer.

Enjoy this refreshing drink, and let me know how it makes you feel!

Your Experience, Their Future: Help Shape a New Grief Support Programme‍

Today, I'm reaching out with a special request. I'm in the early stages of developing a group programme to support recently bereaved partners (after the first 3 months up to about a year into this journey). If you feel ready to share your experiences, your input would be incredibly valuable.

I'd also value your input if you are already further along in your grief journey, as you may be able to tell me more about what support you have been missing during the first year.

Your experiences could help shape a programme that truly meets the needs of those in the first year of their grief journey. Participation is completely voluntary and confidential. All information shared will be stored anonymously to protect your privacy.

What I'm looking for:

  • Individuals who have lost a partner 3-12 months ago, or those further along in their grief journey
  • Willingness to share experiences and needs during this time
  • Insights into what support would have been/would be most helpful

If you're interested in contributing or learning more, please reply back with 'Yes' in the subject line. I'll reach out to you personally within the next two weeks to arrange a 40-minute interview via Zoom or send you a survey, based on your preference.

By participating, you'll have the opportunity to help others who are navigating similar challenges, potentially making their grief journey a little easier.

Your well-being is always my primary concern. There's no pressure to respond or to participate. I greatly appreciate all your support with this!
