January, Issue 1

‍Dear Visitor ‍

"Still munching through Christmas food..." "Just finishing those last Quality Street toffees..."

If these words resonate with you right now, you're not alone. These recent messages from members of a bereavement support group tell a story many of us know well - the pull toward comfort foods as we transition from the busy holiday season to January's quiet and post-holiday gloom.

While many of us laugh off these cravings, you might be wondering why it feels so hard to stop reaching for that cheese, those crisps, or that chocolate. There's actually fascinating science behind why we crave these foods more intensely now - and it goes deeper than just comfort seeking.

I've written about the science behind these cravings and gentle ways to find better balance in my latest blog post:

Did You Know?

Here are some interesting facts about the foods many of us crave:

Cheese contains casein, a compound that can make it addictive; try enjoying it earlier in the day for easier digestion.

Chocolate cravings may be your body's way of signalling a magnesium deficiency; choose options with 75% cacao or more for a healthier treat.

Crisps can surprisingly contain sugar! Why not try making kale crisps instead for a nutritious crunch? You'll find a simple recipe in my latest blog.

Coming Up in February

Join me for a free webinar for Full Circle Funerals on February 13th: "Food for Thought and Healing: The Mind-Body Connection in Grief". Join this talk to explore how nutrition can ease 'grief' symptoms and support both our physical and mental well-being.

Until March 31st, you can also join my "52 Gentle Habits" series at no cost to you - perfect for finding your rhythm again after the holidays.

Remember, understanding why we reach for certain foods is the first step towards making choices that truly nourish us.

Here's to a new year and to finding true comfort in small, manageable changes that support your whole well-being.

Much love,

Sabine
