‍Dear Visitor,

After Kevin died, I couldn't bear to cook the recipes we used to make together. They brought back too many memories—both good and painful.

But over time, I discovered something unexpected: cooking could be a form of stress relief. A way to care for myself. A quiet act of healing.

Not the recipes from before. New ones. Simple, nourishing dishes that grounded me when I didn't know when the next wave of grief would hit.

That's why I created the Culinary Grief Workshops—a space to cook together, connect through food, and explore practical ways to nourish ourselves during difficult times.

Culinary Grief Workshop: Christmas Edition

December's Christmas Edition

On Friday, 12th December, we'll prepare four simple, festive dishes together from my book 'Nourishing Through Loss: A Gentle Holiday Guide'—dishes that comfort and stabilise rather than deplete.

What we'll make:

🍂 Budget-Friendly Stuffing (entirely gluten-free)
🍄 Mushroom-Rosemary Gravy
🍒 Maple-Infused Cranberry Sauce
🍎 5-Minute Apple-Cranberry Nut Crumble – a quick, comforting dessert that satisfies without refined sugar or flour

(Exact recipes will be shared when you register.)

‍But this isn't just about the food.

It's about:

  • Connection with others who understand what you're going through
  • Slowing down in a season that demands we speed up
  • Creating something when grief makes everything feel impossible
  • Learning skills you can use all season (and beyond)
  • Permission to take care of yourself without guilt

A Safe, Supportive Space

This is a small-group workshop (limited to 8 participants) so everybody feels seen and supported. There’s plenty of room to ask questions, share if you wish, or simply be present.

You don’t need to be an experienced cook, and you won’t need any special equipment. Just show up as you are — I’ll guide you through each step.

How My Book Can Help This Christmas

All four recipes come from 'Nourishing Through Loss: A Gentle Holiday Guide' - a book I wish I'd had when Kevin died. It includes 50+ simple festive recipes (suitable for omnivores and vegans), as well as practical tips for gatherings, travelling, and those days when everything feels like too much.

Nothing restrictive — just simple, manageable ways to care for yourself when you need it most.

Christmas is tough when you’re grieving. This book invites you to be kind to yourself and not try to be perfect about eating well. Just changing a few things will make all the difference to your energy, mood, and emotional resilience.

If you'd like the full collection to reference throughout the season (and beyond):

But the workshop stands alone—you don't need the book to participate and benefit.

‍Why Cooking Matters When You're Grieving

When we’re in the midst of grief, it’s easy to neglect even our most basic needs. Cooking can feel like far too much effort, and we may end up reaching for whatever’s quick and convenient, even when it leaves us feeling worse.

Yet, when we approach cooking as a gentle practice — not a chore, not another task on our list, but a way to look after ourselves — it can change everything.

The rhythm of chopping vegetables.
The warmth rising from the stove.
The slow, steady stirring of the spoon.
The quiet satisfaction of making something nourishing with your own hands.

These small acts can anchor us when everything else feels out of our control.

And when we do this together? When we share this experience with others who truly understand? That's when food becomes more than fuel. It becomes connection. Comfort. A gentle way back to ourselves.

‍I’d love for you to join me in the kitchen if it feels right for you. And if you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch.

When we feel nourished — body, mind, and soul — it’s much easier to cope with grief. I know this from personal experience.

Much love,

Sabine
